HEPA Filter

This vacuum has a lifetime washable HEPA filter and is certified “asthma & allergy friendly” by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. The washable filter reduces costs on searching and purchasing bags. The HEPA filter also traps allergens such as, dirt, mold and pollen and expels cleaner air unlike ordinary vacuums.

Attachments

The Dyson DC17 has a telescoping wand that will reach up to 16 feet. This model also comes standard with a stair tool, a brush tool and a crevice tool. The crevice tool allows for high velocity airflow and is ideal for cleaning dust and dirt in crevices of furniture and also around baseboards, corners and other tight places.

Power Cord

This may not be something that most people consider before purchasing a vacuum, but it is an important feature. The 35 foot power cord will help you move easily from room to room without having to search for another outlet and plug and unplug your machine. It will allow you to get your vacuuming done with less down time.

Dyson DC17 Recommendations

Mrs. Clean recommends this model. If you are a clean fanatic and really want every inch of your house to be as dirt and dust free as possible, then this vacuum is a good option.

It deep cleans carpets by getting down deep in the carpet fiber and suctioning up every dust and dirt particle that less expensive vacuums miss. It is a bit pricey, but this is a case of you get what you pay for and it comes with parts and labor warranty of 5 years.

The HEPA filter will make sure that the exhaust air is cleaner than normal air you breathe, so for those with asthma or allergies it is one of the best.

Pros

People are raving about the powerful suction this vacuum offers. When purchasing a vacuum cleaner, constant suction is one of the most important features; having suction and maintaining suction to get down deep into the carpet. It is also more rewarding to have your carpets look visibly cleaner after you vacuum.

Being a multi-tasker is another plus. Being able to vacuum carpet and then seamlessly move to hardwoods or tile. Moving from one surface to another with a touch of a button is very handy. No stopping to put on another attachment and then restarting again or using a clumsy foot petal adjustment.

The telescoping wand is an attachment that does not come standard with most machines and you will be glad that you have it. Normally you would have to get out the big bulky ladder to dust and remove cobwebs from ceilings, ledges and light fixtures. But with the 16 foot telescoping wand you can easily reach everything and no ladder to climb and move around the house.

Cons

The most common complaint is this vacuum had too much suction. Thin rugs were caught up in the vacuum and some said that older rugs showed ware after being vacuumed a few times. If you are someone that prefers to vacuum over rugs with this machine and not use a special attachment, it may cause issues.

The price of this machine is something to consider along with the fact that repair parts and filters are not sold at most stores. The warranty is 5 years parts and labor if purchased new from Dyson. If you purchase elsewhere and are a do-it-yourself fixer then parts may be hard to find.
