Keeping your House Clean
8 Tips To Help Keep Your House Clean
Cleaning your house is boring and keeping dirt out would be nice – but it just doesn’t happen.
We spend hours cleaning, simply to start again the next day. Which can honestly happen when there are many living in a home.
I think you should enjoy your spare time, doing the things you really want to do. I can’t make you like cleaning the house, but I can give you several ideas to make your chores not just easier, but more efficient.
Follow me on down the page as together we take a look at ways you can be more proficient while keeping your house clean!
Make a Cleaning Checklist
Make a cleaning checklist; then decide the time you will clean your home and stick to your schedule. The dirt and grime is only going to worsen the more you put it off. There isn’t any law that says the whole house must be cleaned each each time you clean it.
An example schedule would be to clean the living room on Wednesday, the bathrooms on Tuesdays, and then clean the kitchen every Friday. You can also choose to do the main floor on Tueday and the upstairs on Thursday if that works better for you.
Ask for Help
Get your house mates / family members to help. Call it a work party and get it over with. Give every able bodied person a chore to be done each day then rotate the job each week.
You could also assign one the laundry and another the living room and have them switch off each day. Include special projects like cleaning out the closet, organizing the pantry, or a good deep cleaning in another area..
Dump your Junk
To do a really good job, you need to get rid of clutter. So recycle the newspapers and magazines. Every item has a home so put things away. Knickknacks are pretty but they really just help allow dust to easily sneak up on you.
Don’t keep more than you have room for, you be in control, not the junk. If you’re changing the theme of your bedroom, don’t just leave the old stuff in a corner somewhere – give it to someone else, sell it or donate it.
Pay Attention
Limit any potential distractions. Turn off your phone so you you can pay attention to cleaning. So stay on task, and get the job done.
Get the Right Products for the Job
When you think about your house, determine the problem areas and make sure you have the right cleaning products to clean them.
Does the bathtub have soap scum? If you don’t have the right products to clean it properly, you’ll spend a lot of extra effort to clean it which will end up tiring you out.
Does the refrigerator stink? It doesn’t take much to get it clean and smelling good again. A little baking soda and warm water is a great way to sanitize, remove odors and brighten up any dirty fridge.
Use good Cleaning Tools & Products
Use good quality cleaning products that are appropriate for the job. This doesn’t mean the more expensive the product the better it is.
Many of the best cleaning supplies are the cheapest too. For example, vinegar and water does a great job on floors and is very inexpensive.
Supplies you Should have on Hand
Use the correct cleaning product for the surface you’re working on. Mrs Clean uses very few products. Namely, disinfectant, degreaser, window/glass cleaner, comet, softscrub, and vinegar for the hard floors (not stone floors). Here’s more:
- Glass cleaner
- Green scrubby
- Disinfectant
- Toothbrush for scrubbing small spaces
- Detergent/Degreaser
- Sponges
- Soap scum remover
- Hand brush scrubbers
- Comet
- Furniture polish
- Soft scrub
Aside from a few cleaning tools, thats it. Using the appropriate product for the task, just about everything can be cleaned quickly and effectively with just those items I have listed.
Carry your Cleaning Supplies with You
Gather all of your supplies and put them in a cleaning caddy . Don’t go back and forth from room to room to get your special cleaners. This will slow you down. Professional house cleaners bring all the supplies and tools in the carry all their tools in a bucket.
Stop it Before it gets Out of Control
There are things you can do to prevent dirt from getting in, funny smells coming from the fridge, counters from getting cluttered, and so on. Here are a few ideas:
Keep the Dirt Out!
Keep doormats by all entries into the house. Wipe off dirty on mats or get a boot and shoe scraper to keep by the mud room door. We take our shoes off in the garage and keep them cubbies, then slip on our slippers to help keep dirt out.
If you have dogs, keep old towels by the door to wipe the dirt off before they come in.
Keep the Stink Out!
Clean the fridge weekly. Get rid of old food items before they get stinky and wipe up spills as they happen.
Keep a box of Arm & Hammer in the refrigerator to help absorb odors. According to Arm & Hammer, it is recommended to change the box every 30 days for optimal freshness and to ensure your food tastes fresher longer.
So you see – there isn’t a lot to remember. When you make a list, you and/or other house members stay on top of things, you’ be able to keep your house clean. No problem!
