How to Remove Mold and Mildew Naturally
Is there a different between mold and mildew?
Yes, in fact there is. Mildew is the white fungus that grows on plants. The mildew that normal everyday people refer to is not mildew at all, but just plain old mold.
At some point a surface in your home will show signs of mold and mildew, it’s inevitable. Mold and mildew grows in moist conditions and it will spread quickly in damp humid areas, especially areas with no venting. Homes that have a mold problem can also have airborne spores reducing the quality of the air in the home.
So how do we get rid of mold and mildew and naturally remove it?
Using Bleach and Water:
Cleaning mold and mildew from a non-porous surface can be easy to do. A non-porous surface is anything that liquid will not sink or absorb into. Here’s what you can do to clean these types of surfaces. I always wear old clothes when I’m working with bleach so I don’t ruin nice clothing, you might want to do this too.
An easy way to mix this solution is to recycle an old, empty gallon bleach container. Don’t worry about rinsing it, we’ll be putting some bleach back in it. Put your gloves on then get to mixing and cleaning.
- Pour one cup bleach in the gallon container and fill the rest of the way with water.
- Now get a spray bottle and fill it with the mix. Spray the surface and scrub the area with the mold and mildew remover.
- If you’re in an area with windows, open it a little bit for venting.
- Rinse with regular old water and dry.
Commercial Cleaning Products:
Concrobium Mold Control is an all natural commercial cleaning solution for mold. It does not contain bleach, ammonia, or volatile organic compounds. The manufacturer states this works on mold while the product dries. They claim it covers and hardens the affected surface by forming an invisible film that crushes the mold under it. Once the mold is removed it continues to provide protection against any regrowth.
