Mrs Clean’s Favorite House Cleaning Tips
Efficient House Cleaning Tips
The truth is, if you want to keep your house spic and span, it all starts with a little planning and the right tools. Remember, there is not just one way to clean your home. What works for one person, may not work for another as far as when and how much time can be dedicated to cleaning.
For instance, if you’re a stay at home mom, you most likely clean a little every day. If you work and don’t get home from work and/or after work activities until 8 or 9 o’clock in the evening – you’re tired and not very motivated clean. You may tackle the cleaning chores on the weekend.
Whatever the circumstance, there are things you can do to get it done efficiently and still have time to do what you want. Mrs. Clean is here to help you learn the basic rules of cleaning along with a few cleaning tips, so let’s get going!
Concentrate on Just One Room at a Time
For many people, the biggest obstacle towards getting their house sparkling clean is losing motivation or getting sidetracked halfway through the cleaning process. Distractions can literally cost you precious hours and I know I for one, don’t want to spend unnecessary hours cleaning.
It’s easier to finish a cleaning task completely if you’re concentrating on cleaning one room at a time. This way you feel a sense of accomplishment when it’s done and then move on to the next room with more motivation.
Start at the Top and Work Your Way Out
We start on the top floor of a house and start cleaning from the top of the room down towards the bottom of the room.
When you do this, you won’t sully freshly cleaned areas. Vacuum last working from the back of the room moving and back towards the door to avoid messing up the carpet.
Cleaning Tip: Every so often, use the cleaning wand attachment on the vacuum cleaner and clean along the carpet edge and the trim around the room. You’d be surprised at how much stuff gets trapped there.
Have the Right Cleaners and Tools on Hand
Having all your cleaning supplies together eliminates the possibility of having to stop what you’re doing, go somewhere else to retrieve a cleaner, possibly get sidetracked and not finish cleaning a room – until another day.
Keeping them together makes cleaning day more efficient. It’s also good to know the surfaces in your home so you use the right cleaners for each surface.
For instance, you would never use vinegar on marble or stone it will damage the surface and it will eventually cause irreparable damage or very costly fixes from a professional!
But a vinegar and water mix can be used to clean a wood floor.
Your cleaning tote may contain:
- Cleaning rags
- Dry cleaning cloths (for wiping down surfaces after cleaning)
- Gloves
- Cleaners specific to the surfaces you’re cleaning like: glass cleaner, polish, all purpose, etc.
- Scrub brush
- Garbage bags
- Duster
Your cleaning tools may consist of:
- Floor mop
- Vacuum cleaner, bags and attachments
- Canister vacuum for stairs
Cleaning Tip: You could keep cleaning items upstairs and downstairs. This way you won’t have to carry your cleaning supplies up and down stairs. You can also cut down on the things in your tote by keeping bathroom cleaners in each bathroom, kitchen and dining room specific cleaners in the kitchen and so on.
When you’re done cleaning, wipe surfaces dry to avoid spots and/or etching. It also makes a surface look brighter.
Put Things Away, Not Just Down Somewhere
I’m pretty sure most of us are aware if we put things away when we are finished with them instead of putting it down, over time there will be less mess to clean and less clutter to look at.
It only takes a couple of minutes, so why not give it a try.
Remember to stay focused and gitter done then go enjoy the day or evening.
