Cleaning Tips For Removing Coffee Stains

So anyone that works in an office, is bound to get spilled coffee on clothing or has seen a fair amount of coffee stained clothing on your co-workers.

It’s all a part of the workers guide to office etiquette. I made that up but it sounds good.

Removing Coffee Stains from Clothing

Since coffee is organic and is a water based stain, you will want to treat it in the right manner. The good news is a fresh coffee stain can be successfully removed rather easily.

Here are some steps to make it happen.

1. Rinse under cold water – back to front.
2. Use a white terry cloth and blot the stain to remove all that you can.
3. Apply a mild dish detergent to the stain and rub with your fingers.
4. Rinse thoroughly with cold water.
5. Pre-treat stain.
6. Launder as usual, but allow to air dry.

Using Club Soda to Remove Coffee Spills from the Car

1. Blot up and remove as such of the spilled coffee as you can.
2. Soak the stained area with club soda.
3. Using your fingertip, work the club soda into the stain.
4. Let sit for 10 minutes then rinse with cold water.
5. Soak up the water with absorbent material.
6. Repeat as necessary.

Can Egg Yolks Remove a Coffee Stain?

Have you ever heard that egg yolks can remove a hard to remove coffee stain? Personally I have yet to try this but there are many people that swear this is a true fact.

1. First separate the egg yolk and beat it.
2. Use a clean terry cloth and work it into the coffee stain for a minute or so.
3. Rinse the item thoroughly to remove the egg yolk.
4. And just within a couple of minutes the stain is gone.

Removing Coffee Stains from Carpet Using Hydrogen Peroxide

This is probably the easiest way to remove a coffee stain from carpets. Hydrogen peroxide is a mild bleach and I would first suggest you test in an inconspicuous spot first to make sure it doesn’t damage the carpet in any way.

1. Blot as much of the coffee up using an absorbent material like paper towels or a clean rag.
2. Liberally spray (or carefully pour) the stained area with hydrogen peroxide. Just don’t over saturate the carpet.
3. Cover with a clean towel. Let sit a while then check the progress. A fresh stain may not take as long to remove than an old coffee stain.
4. When the stain is gone, blot the area well to remove as much liquid as possible then cover again with a dry towel until the carpet is dry.

Stubborn Coffee Stains On The Counter

To remove these, first use a mild detergent to wash the surface – if anything remains of the coffee stain: make a thin paste of baking soda and water and gently scrub to remove the coffee stain.

Commercial Cleaning Products

I always like to try what I have in my pantry before going out and buying chemicals but there are those that may choose this option.

There are pen sticks for small spills if you’re at the office and other stain removers or there are laundry pre-treatment products.
