Safe Oven Cleaning Tips

Spills happen.

It doesn’t matter how careful you place dinner in the oven, you will eventually get baked on grease, spills and splatters from cooking your families favorite dishes.

The good news is that you don’t have to buy those dangerous and toxic oven cleaners in the grocery store. Do yourself a favor, (and your pocketbook) and make your own homemade oven cleaner from the recipes listed below.

How to Clean Your Oven Safely:

These oven cleaning tips will help you clean your oven safely, quickly, and are better for the environment. It takes a little more elbow grease to clean with natural products, but it’s better for you too, and worth the extra effort it takes to clean.

Note: Never mix ammonia with bleach containing products as a poisonous gas will result.

Home Made Oven Cleaner:

  • 1 T Liquid dish soap
  • 1 T White Vinegar
  • 1 T Hydrogen Peroxide
  • 1 Quart Warm water

Mix all these ingredients together in a bowl or a bucket.

Apply the oven cleaning solution with a sponge to the inside of the oven. Let it sit for 1 hour. Scrub with a sponge or green scrubby. Rinse well.

Oven Cleaner With Ammonia:

  • 1 Cup Ammonia

Put the ammonia in a glass bowl, and place it inside the oven and close the door.

Let the bowl stay in the oven over night. The next day, use a green scrubby and wipe away those stubborn stains.

Chemical Free Natural Oven Cleaning:

  • 5 T Baking Soda
  • 3 drops Liquid Dish Soap
  • 4 T White vinegar

Mix the above ingredients into a thick paste. Use a sponge to apply the oven cleaner to the inside of the oven and then scrub with green scrubby. make sure to rinse thoroughly and wipe the oven clean.

Lemon Juice Cleaner:

Lemon is a great grease cutter. To make lemon oven cleaner, mix equal parts of lemon juice and salt. Apply the lemon oven cleaner to oven stains and let it sit for 15 minutes. Use a green scrubby and rinse and wipe the oven clean.

Natural Oven Cleaner:

  • 4 T Baking Soda
  • 4 T Hot Water

Baking soda is a great stain remover, and an abrasive.

Mix the ingredients and apply to the inside of your oven with a sponge. Let the oven cleaner sit for 15 minutes. Use a green scrubby. Then rinse and wipe the oven clean.

Tough Oven Stain Remover:

  • 1 Cup Salt
  • 1 Cup Baking Soda
  • 1 Cup Water

Make a paste using these ingredients. Apply the mixture to the inside of the oven. Close the oven door and heat the oven to 500-degrees for 1 hour. Turn the oven off and allow it to cool. Use a damp rag or sponge to wipe any debris. Rinse thoroughly and wipe dry.

Commercial Oven Cleaner:

It’s easy to clean your oven using commercial oven cleaner spray. Make sure to wear rubber gloves and eye protection if using oven cleaner. Read all product instructions and follow the manufacturers directions.

First heat the to 200° . Turn the oven off, and take the spay and completely spray the soiled areas.

By heating the oven slightly, you give the cleaning product a power boost and it will do a better job at removing the baked on grime. Let the cleaner work over night.

Take a damp rag or sponge and simply wipe the grime out the next morning. Rinse the oven thoroughly then wipe it dry.
